Ep. 92 The B-25 Bomber That Disappeared in Pittsburgh
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
In this episode, we dive into one of Pennsylvania’s strangest unsolved mysteries — the Pittsburgh “Ghost Bomber.” In 1956, a B-25 bomber made an emergency landing on the Monongahela River… and then vanished without a trace.
What makes this story even crazier? They actually had it. Rescue crews hooked onto the aircraft and began recovery efforts, but somehow the plane slipped away and disappeared beneath the river for good. No wreckage. No confirmed recovery. Just questions.
We break down the full timeline of the incident, what went wrong during the recovery, and the efforts that followed — including the organized searches and teams dedicated to finding the missing bomber over the years. From sonar scans to dive expeditions, people have spent decades trying to locate what should be sitting in plain sight.
Of course, we also get into the theories:
Was it buried deep in river mud?
Did shifting currents move it miles away?
Or is there something more to why it was never found?
As always, we pair this mystery with a cold one — Dive Team IPA from Wallenpaupack Brewing Co. out of Hawley, PA. A perfect match for a story that quite literally went under.
Crack a can and come hang with us as we explore the legend of the Ghost Bomber.
